You thought the prospect was ready to sign on the dotted line but changed his or her mind at the last minute? Even worse, he or she still joined your organization but with somebody else? It can be really discouraging to have a “hot” prospect turn “cold”. Here are some things to keep in mind if it happens to you.
Why did your prospect turn cold?
You probably did not understand your prospect’s motivation. In order to become a good network marketer, you need to realize that there are many different reasons that stimulate prospects. Try to remember why you joined. What was your motivation? Did the marketer manage to find your “hot points”? How did he or she do it? Building a rapport is a very important part of being a good salesperson. You have to discover how to approach and involve your prospect. Once that’s done, find out what motivates them. Until you master these skills, keeping a prospect “hot” will remain an issue.
What are the prospect’s thoughts and motivation?
Prospects make decisions based on their motivation, not yours. Keep this in mind and try to discover what their motivation is. It could be security, additional income, a flexible schedule or business ownership. To get them hooked on your business opportunity, you must uncover their secret desires. Don’t assume anything when you meet your prospect. Simply keep your eyes and ears open for how your business opportunity would meet the prospect’s needs and fulfill his motivation.
What can you do to uncover their motivation? Ask questions. By asking the right questions, the prospect becomes involved and stays interested in your presentation. Now listen to your prospect’s answers and really hear what he or she has to say. They will likely tell you what motivates them, albeit not directly, but you have to pay attention and listen carefully. Keep your talking/listening ratio to a maximum of 20% talking. You really need to look for your prospect’s motivation, and once you have it, selling your business opportunity will be a lot easier by simply showing your prospect how your product or service is the perfect solution for their situation.
Keep your prospect interested
If your prospect sees you as a credible person and would be comfortable doing business with you, you’re off to a good start. To do that, you must know your products and services inside and out, develop your skills to discover your prospect’s motivation and you have to offer (and deliver) a solution to your prospect’s needs. You now have all the tools you need to keep your prospect “hot” so get out there and use them!
